"I will share a true ghost story from Lavery Trail. This would have happened a few years ago. This house was the scene of an unfortunate tragedy and the people who had rented the house moved out quite suddenly and gave no explanation for their hasty departure not long afterwards.

The house had a succession of occupants all of whom left after relatively short stays. Previous to the tragic circumstances the house had stable long term tenants, happy to live in a sought after area. And after the tragedy they couldn’t seem to keep them. Eventually the owners sold the home and soon after taking residency the children of the new owners started talking about a man seen walking around in the basement. It got to the point where the kids were terrified to go down there. When asked what he looked like the description they gave matched that of one of the former tenants who had passed away under the tragic circumstances.

This was related to me after I confided in some of the strange goings on in my own home. I was hoping she could shed some light on local history. In retelling the story I am curious as to how another Mom explains such sightings to her children and even if it still happening.

When my son was about 2 ½, something spooked him so he had come to sleep in our bed. He woke up again between my husband and I, later in the night. He saw a dark shape up above the headboard he called it ‘shadow’ and ‘he was mean, mommy’. Shadow told him to ‘go back to sleep’ in a gruff voice. He quickly obeyed. I explained it away as a bad dream when he told me the next morning and that seemed to satisfy him.

I also had the experience of someone approach me to ask who the woman was, gardening in front of my house? I was taken aback. I am the gardener at my house-with help from my husband. I said you must have seen my Mom (who occasionally pulls weeds when she visits).

”No, no this woman was dressed in 19th C clothing (all black apparently) and had her hair tied in a tight bun”.
