In 2013 one of our readers wrote in the following:

"We lived on Pell street when we were children back in the very early 70's My sister and I both attended Cliffside Public School.Our family still talks about the very bizarre and strange occurrences that took place there.It was a very dark time. My mother who is very psychic, still to this day talks about the ghostly figures that appeared and the objects that moved on their own in front of the whole family. Objects such as a sweater that flew off the chair and straight across the room while my sister and I were watching television, voices in the bedrooms when no one was in there. My sister and I witnessed adult figures with dark hoods chanting and walking in the bedroom at night. Two days later another home on Pell street had experienced a fire and one of my good friends, a child I went to school with perished in the fire. Furniture being moved was also a common occurrence. One night I was laying on my parents bed in late afternoon watching a Charlie Brown Christmas special when the bed started shaking and moving side to side with me on it.It stopped after about 20-30 seconds, and had clearly moved a good 7-8 inches. Just before this took place I remember the room going stone cold and the bedroom door slammed shut. Although my sister and I were quite young 10 and 8 my mother was more aware of what was happening and kept a lot from us.The day we moved permanently out of Pell Street was a good feeling. "

We were fortunate enough to correspond with our reader's mother who confirmed everything reported as well as related some experiences of her own.

"My family and I lived at XXX and XXX Pell Street. Scarborough, We encountered many strange things including being touched as we slept, lights going off and on, at Christmas we would see a small girl sitting on our stool by the X-mas tree, all 3 of my kids saw this. I have seen fire come out of my toaster when it was not on, seen writing on the hardwood floor saying "get out," felt unseen people touching me, saw different spirits in home, hooded figures walking around in my kids bedroom. Also my kids saw this as well, felt my arms were on backwards when i awoke from sleep. I was told the place was built on Indian burial grounds. Being only 26 years old at the time a very young mother of 3, I was terrified. The sink in the bathroom would fill up with scalding water with the plug in, this happened 2-3 times per week when the children were at school. I could go on and on............."
