We have masked the hospital in this account in order to protect the past, and current staff members who have written to us, and so that current, and future patients are not made uncomfortable by their stay at this facility.

"I have worked at the hospital, the night shift, for a number of years. I can assure you, there are plenty of spirits that go bump in the night round there. I started working at the hospital as a security stiff (guard),.and this took me all over the hospital at all hours.

When you first work nights at a hospital, at least for me, it seems like you're in that movie "Bringing Out the Dead", cuz everything seems weird and out of place. After you get used to the different pace, you start to notice things. The first was James Dean. At least that is what me and some of the other dudes who see him call him. If you know the lay out of the Hospital, you would know there are more than one building. One of the other buildings, is directly across from emerg. When I was a guard, I would have to check the building after the cleaners were finished, which sometimes stretched to the wee hours, and make sure the place was secure. Fairly regularly I would find an office door open, the lights on and a radio on. When I would give the cleaners hell the next day, they staunchly denied it. I always figured they were just forgetful until the first time I saw James Dean.

He's not really James Dean, he just resembles him. Every time I've seen him, it has usually been between 1:00am-4:00am, and he always is across from emerg, standing in front of the building. Every time I tried to go across to get closer, he moves away fast and disappears, although not in front of you. The consensus is from those of us who have seen him, that he is not staff, a patient, nor area resident. A housekeeper saw James Dean just a few weeks ago.

The other place in that hospital where I saw something was in the basement area, which is around the corner from the morgue. A few years ago, a lab tech asked me to walk with him to the lab cuz he was getting this bad feeling bout something and it was 2am, I was going that way anyway so I agreed. When we got off the elevator, there was this old lady standing there, she wasn't a patient or staff, so I asked her if she was lost and got no response. She then walked toward a cafeteria, which would have taken her out of eye shot, when I took two steps to look down the hall, she was gone, I quickly ran down the hall and there was no one. Other staff, who I confided in, told me this woman has been seen for quite some time, years perhaps, and others get a feeling of being watched around that area at night, and they always ask me to walk with them, male staff as well.

Another area in the hospital were people get the creeps going in at night, is the OR area. Although no one I know of has seen anything, there is a feeling in there which I find hard to put into words, sort of a feeling of despair and sadness. There are other areas where you sometimes get a bizarre scent which disappears as quickly as you smell it, I don't know if you would consider that paranormal, but when it happens in the chapel or the library, it is creepy.

Those are the ones I know about, I'm sure there are lots more."
Our thanks to the staff members, past and present, for this report.
