Fort Erie - Cemeteries

We often tell people that there are precious few ghosts to be found in cemeteries yet, thanks to certain "large commercial ghost-sites", the myth is maintained that cemeteries are great bastions of the paranormal.

Our line has ALWAYS been that people (ghosts,) haunt where they lived, worked and sometimes, their place of death... not where they are buried.

Well, leave it to John Robert Colombo to find a cemetery where the ghost could be the cemetery's keeper!

McAfee Cemetery (on Niagara Blvd., near Pleasant Point,) in Fort Erie supposedly has phosphorescent light or "fire-balls" (note: not orbs... yet!) reported floating and flying around. There is also reported an apparition of a man carrying a lantern thought to be Samuel McAfee who, among now being a cemetery ghost, was also the man that rowed William Lyon Mackenzie cross the Niagara to the states after the failed rebelion of 1837.

Also in Fort Erie, although not as well documented, the "Coloured Cemetery" on Ridgemount Road which contains the remains of those Black soldiers who gave their lives for Upper Canada during the War of 1812 is reported to have a spectre. We have received one report of a "shadowy" red-coated soldier seen at dusk near the centre of the cemetery but not much more than this.
