Although this board is for the exchanging of ideas and thoughts about ghosts, hauntings and related information as well as a place where people "gather" to exchange messages to each other, we do moderate the board to ensure that the content is acceptable to the general public and, more importantly, to the membership of the Ghosts and Hauntings Research Society.

Anyone is welcome to come and post statements and/or question (you, as a message poster, do not need to become a member of the PSICAN,) but we do ask that you try to adhere to the following rules of conduct on the board...

• #1: Please, do not post any threatening or abusive messages to people, places, groups, websites, etc.

• #2: Please, do not post messages of a religious nature that are not on the topic at hand (ghosts and hauntings). Do not post religious messages that are of a "conversion" topic or meant to try to convert people(s) of other faith(s) to another. If you do post a religious message, please try to take into consideration the other people(s) of other faith(s) and their views and opinions.

• #3: Please refrain from using coarse language in your posts.

• #4: Sexist and/or racist comments will not be tolerated.

• #5: Please do not post messages which are in no way related to the topic at hand (ghosts and hauntings) or that are not geared towards specific members of the PSICAN. Posting to "advertise" goods, services and websites that are not related to ghosts and hauntings and/or are run "for profit" will not be tolerated.

• #6: If you are posting a message that is not about "ghosts or hauntings" or somehow related, please place the letters OT in front of your subject line... For example, "OT - How About Those Leafs!". Messages that are "off topic" and not labeled might be deleted by our moderators.

• #7: This board can not and should not be used to advertise "for pay" investigations or psychic readings of any sort. Posting of this nature will be deleted.

• #8: Attempts to use this board by 'scripts' to cause advertising or "pop-ups" will not be tolerated and if if this sort of gentle 'hack' is done, the poster's ISP will be alerted and further action will be taken.

• #9: Although we don't mind topics on the board dealing with other types of "paranormal study", (ie: vampires, UFOs, ESP, etc., etc.) please make sure that these posts are labeled "OT" for "off topic" (see above).

• #10: Please do not post exact company names or exact addresses of sites unless they are publicly known and have been previously reported as haunted. For example, saying "123 Anywhere St." is haunted or might be haunted when it is not already publicly known to be haunted is bad but, saying Fort George is haunted is okay. If you are seeking information on a site for personal information or study, please, feel free to give a general idea of the site's location and ask other message board readers to e-mail you for information. Unfortunately, unless we (The Torontoghosts, Ontarioghosts and the PSICAN) have express permission from the current owner, management and/or resident/tenant of a site, we cannot publicly display exact information on any given site. Messages that are posted that break this rule will be edited by our moderators or deleted.

• #11: We do not mind individuals/groups posting up alternative events or 'things to do with other groups/people other than the PSICAN' but a disclaimer MUST be in place to let board readers know that the PSICAN/Torontoghosts/Ontarioghosts is not involved and not responsible for the outcome or any issues with the event/thing mentioned. Other groups in Ontario doing events or asking for assistance can and are welcome to place information on our board PROVIDED that it states that the event or information is by/from that particular group. All postings of this nature WITHOUT a disclaimer of some sort WILL be deleted by one of our moderators. (Please see the article linked here for why we are now requiring people to do this.)

• #12: Do not post messages suggesting or recommending illegal activities such as "break and enter" or "trespassing" for the sake of "ghosts" or the paranormal. Postings like this will be deleted.

Please note: These "rules" are not completely written in stone and there will be exceptions to every rule. If one of the above "rules" is broken to such a degree as to cause concern and the consensus among the moderators is that the message is in violation of our "rules", one of the four moderators will delete the message. If the "rule" is broken again by the same user, we will post a warning on the message board that this should not continue. If a third infraction happens again with the same user, we will back-trace your IP and alert the abuse staff at you ISP and further actions may result. PRIVACY STATEMENT Please note, when POSTING or RESPONDING to a message here, our servers note in a log your IP address. This is so that those people that do continually cause trouble may be traced for further action. We do not publish nor disclose the IP lists UNLESS we have posted a message warning of further action and it is ignored. Then, we only use the particular IP of the offending user to track back to the ISP of origin to launch our complaint.

Also remember, we do need to keep the board as small as possible to maintain the speed and effective loading of our message board and therefore will be going through and deleting older messages. This is not done as a punitive measure but simply to clean up and allow the board to function well. We will do our best to only delete those posts that are "time sensitive". (ie: "Chat on Sunday!", "OT - Merry Christmas", etc.)
