Late September News...
It's kinda rare that I write an editorial on the fly for a quick update, but I decided you good folks deserved an explanation for the "elongated" Summer holiday we took...
First of all, we're polishing up a report on a haunted bar in the heart of downtown Toronto which will be in October's updates... I was hoping to have it ready for this month's updates, but as you will find out... the fates decided to conspire against us.
I also nearly had finished a paper for PSICAN on why some witnesses of the paranormal, after their initial incident, tend to become witnesses again... in other words, they go from a "single" experience to a "multiple" experience in other places at different times... Fate, again, had it's way with me.
I am a firm believer and constant user of the USB memory stick... it allows me to transport my documents from one place to another in a nice, compact format... well, much of my notes for this month died on a memory stick that decided, at the end of August, to misbehave horribly.
Professionally, I am a computer technician and there are two big rules in computers...
#1: Back Up Your Work Frequently On Different Sources!
#2: Don't Forget Rule #1!
I blew rule #2 and now am re-writing much from raw notes...
Anyway, next month is HALLOWEEN SEASON and our hits and interest in the site go WAY UP.
I will be ensuring that updates for Halloween will be online for October 19th (most likely earlier) and will try to compile a list of "things" that will be happening during this "festive season". To that end, IF YOU or someone you know is doing something "ghost oriented" for Halloween, PLEASE let me know so I may add it to my notes and updates for October... e-mail the details to matthew@torontoghosts.org
BE CAREFUL THOUGH!!! When you e-mail me, my "spam trapper" will automatically send you a "response" e-mail... if you wish your message to be received by me, simply click "Reply To", don't change anything else, and send the "spam response" back to me... that's it... and I'll get your e-mail. Sorry to have to do this, but I was receiving literally thousands of "spams" per day.
With this season comes the traditional removal of recruitment for our team. This is something we instituted long ago because during the fall months (around Halloween,) many people think they want to be volunteers and work with us on various things... of course, come Christmas, many of them realise that it's legitimate work and that things aren't as glamorous as TV or movies make out ghost investigation/research to be... so we stop taking on new people starting in September and rolling through February.
If you are REALLY interested, please consider these points...
- We will not be handing you the keys to a haunted house.
- We do not court media attention.
- On a "good month", we may have three investigation province wide.
- With very few exceptions, what's online is what we know about.
- This is a volunteer organisation.
- Most of what we do is answer e-mail and read.
- We do not offer "tours" or theatrical performances.
- We are actually serious.
- We don't hang around cemeteries.
- We don't trespass, break and enter, or do anything without permissions.
- We do not have magic scientific "ghost detectors" or the like.
If you understand the above and are STILL interested... and despite what I've said above, it does have it's advantages, please read through our course book (it's free!) and take the exam in February.
