Bracebridge - Camp 20

North of Gravenhurst and close by Bracebridge (hard to think of Bracebridge without thinking of Santa's Village,) is the land that used to contain Calybor Hospital built in 1916. The hospital was a private sanitarium but also served as "Camp 20" for German POWs during WWII.

Two of the prisoners died at the camp... one in 1941 and another in 1942 and during the time after the war when the hospital cum camp was used as the Gateway Hotel, there were persistent rumours that the ghosts of two prisoners were seen in and around the hotel and grounds.

The hotel itself was burned to the ground in the 1960s but people still say that they see the two prisoners on the grounds at dusk.

We are VERY interested in hearing from anyone in that area to see if there have been any recent sightings of these two German soldiers, please do e-mail us at ontario@ontarioghosts.org if you have any information.

Thanks to Justin and John Robert Colombo for the notes we have on this "haunt". We will also be adding some additional information to this story once we have collected our own notes.

Do you have a story or report from around Bracebridge or Muskoka? If you do, please e-mail us at ontario@ontarioghosts.org and let us know.
