Cookstown - The Chestnut Inn

This one was sent in by one of our readers looking for more information...

Hi, finally a site for ghosts near my area...Thank You!!!

I know of a place is in Cookstown, Just off the 400 at the highway 89 cut off. It is now an antique store but it used to be a restauant/community hall I believe.

It has been said that there have been many sightings of a small girl coming down the stairs from the loft. I have been there many times to check it out, I have felt nothing but I don't think I'm open to it. Check it out if you wish, I would be interested to know more!!

Thanks again,
Tiffany

I used to work in The Chestnut Inn which is now The Princely Pear Tea Room and just so you know, the one that is famous for going down the stairs is a woman, not a little girl. The staff refers to her as Catherine. At least the previous owners did. In the upstairs windows on some occasions, you can see the figure of a woman in black in the window. There is the sound of little girls laughter in the upstairs bedrooms as well. The worst place is in the basement. Apparently at one time, there was a man who used to live in the basement. He was a little mentally challenged & was terrified of the dark. The first corner that you come to in the basement is where he used to try to hide from the "monsters" in the dark. When you pass by this area, your heart begins to pound like it is going to jump out of you chest. There have been some sensitives/mediums go through there in the past. There is said to be over 35 spirits there. If you drive by at night, sometimes you can see a man in the upstairs window. Although, it is hard not to look at it at night. It seems to draw you in & make you look.
